The Waterway Safety and Survival course provides essential knowledge and practical skills for navigating and surviving on waterways safely. Participants will learn about potential hazards, safe boating practices, and emergency procedures.

The course also covers topics such as navigation, weather awareness, personal floating devices, and rescue techniques, equipping learners with the confidence and skills to enjoy waterways safely.

LEARNING OBJECTIVE

At the end of this course, participants shall:

  • Understand weather conditions, navigational challenges, and the risks associated with different watercraft.
  • Understand different types of PFDs and their appropriate application.
  • Understand and apply basic navigation principles using charts, compasses, GPS, and other navigational aids.
  • Will recognise and respond to emergencies, including engine failure, capsizing, fire, and other similar incidents.
  • Understand how to apply basic first aid and CPR techniques in a water environment.
  • Understand and comply with relevant waterway regulations and laws, including awareness of boating licenses, speed limits, and other legal requirements.
